Masquerade (real name of Cecelia Walker, otherwise known as "Sissy") is a comic book superhero created by Sissy Boy for the comic Pride High.
Publication history[]
Sissy Boy created Masquerade as a reader character on the Pride High message boards. She evidently originally had the name of Streetwalker before having it changed to Masquerade. The character has since appeared in issues 1, 3 and 6 of the comic. Since Sissy Boy retains all rights to the character, there is always the possibility that she may appear in media unrelated to Pride High.
Character history[]
What is known of Sissy's history is that she was rejected by her parents because of ambiguous genitilia, due to being born intersex. She had unsuccessful invasive surgery, after which her parents abandoned her. Her childhood included robbery and prostitution in her young teens. She doesn't know her own age but identifies as 16, though she is enrolled as a freshman in high school.
Sissy is intersex but identifies as MTF (male to female) with characteristics of male and female gender presentation. She is withdrawn from her peers, preferring to not show her more fragile side, putting up a tough persona. However, she is getting better over time.
She identifies as queer and has had sexual experiences with people across the gender spectrum, but she specifically attracts the wrong type of boys, which usually spells trouble for them.
In the comic Pride High, Sissy first appears as a background character in issue 1 with no speaking lines. In issue 3, she is shown as one of the students Kid Mischief approaches to complete the roster for Pride High so the group can compete in the ISC (Inter-Squad Championships). Sissy is seen telling him, "The ISC is elitist BS!" Later, she appears in issue 6, watching Pride High face the Argonauts, having attended with fellow student Epsilon. It is implied that she went to the match for Epsilon's benefit, though she gets annoyed at his flamboyant exclamation of "Let's bring pom-poms next time!"
Powers and abilities[]
Masquerade is a metamorph, in that she can shapeshift into anyone she has touched. She also can mimic any voice she has heard. As well, she has used the art of seduction as both her trade and her means of survival for the last few years. On top of this, she is a capable hand-to-hand fighter, though not formally trained. She often carries a bo staff that she fights with, despite being untrained in its use.
